Thank you so much to everyone that donated time, money and talents to our 1st annual event! It was a success. I am so proud to be part of an amazing group of women and a great cause. Pictures will be posted the later part of next week, so check back and see what we did.. or look for your pic! We had 52 finishers who all ran a "choose our own adventure" race. A few people did get turned around.. or went a little extra.. or a little less.... so this was a learning experience and the course will be better marked for next year. :) We raised a little over $1,000 as our first year!! This was without corp sponsorship ! Next year we have something to build on, this is exciting!
Some pictures will be posted by the end of this week.. 31 October, the rest will be posted by 10 November. If you would like to purchase photographs, all proceeds benefit The Mary Kay Foundation. Please contact Roxi Harrison at SanDiegoMk5k@gmail.com

Movin' Right Along
Things are really falling into place! My sister Mary Kay Consultants and Sales Directors have been such a big help and support. I love the sisterhood we share in Mary Kay. I know that we are only a month and a half out from our event, but I'm starting to see the magic really happen. I am grateful that I belong with so many amazing women who give of their time and resources. They all are successful with their businesses [many with either another job, family or both] but we work together to Enrich Women's lives :) I wouldn't want to be associated anywhere else! Thank you to everyone who is willing to help, I can't wait to raise money for The Mary Kay Foundation!!!! I recieved more items for the Silent Auction this week..and boy is it going to be AWESOME!!! Stay tuned to see what you can bid on....

San Diego's 1st Annual MK 5K!!!
Hello everyone! I'm so excited to announce that we are hosting the First Annual MK 5K! It is a fun run/walk that you wont want to miss! All proceeds will be donated to the Mary Kay Foundation. We have a goal of raising a minimum of$20,000 for the foundation with this event! Donations include, but are not limited to, cash/check donations, entry fees, t-shirt sales, old cell phones and empty ink cartridges. Pink donation bags will be available to put your old cell phones and ink cartridges into and send to the foundation.
These are causes that are very near and dear to my heart, as I have been affected by both. Several members of my family have had cancer and many more friends have battled with this disease. I have also been, in the past when I was young, in a relationship that was abusive. For me it was a struggle and for the longest time I thought I was to blame. With the help and support of family members, I was able to leave. This is not the case with all women and young teens. My goal is to help raise awareness and help young girls understand and recognize the signs of unhealthy relationship and to be strong and get help.
Please help by registering to run/walk, making a monetary donation, or a donation of time or goods. we are in need of a lot of helping hands and willing hearts! If you are interested in helping, in any aspect, please email me at: SanDiegoMk5k@gmail.com
More information on race information, prizes, give aways and silent auction, help needed will be posted on this blog and on my facebook page. Event Details are posted in the entry below. Thanks again for all your help!
The flier is below and it is a jpeg, so you can print it out. If you would like to have a pdf format of the flier, please email me at: SanDiegoMk5k@gmail.com

The Mary Kay Foundation was created in 1996 and its mission is two-fold: to fund research of cancers affecting women and help prevent domestic violence while raising awareness of the issue. Since the Foundation's inception, it has awarded nearly $19 million to shelters and programs addressing domestic violence and $12.2 million to cancer researchers and related causes throughout the United States. to learn more about the Mary Kay Foundation, log onto http://www.marykayfoundation.org/ or call 1-800-MkCARES (562-2737)

Who is Roxi?
Hello. To introduce myself.. I'm Roxi [Rabeka] Harrison.
Roxi is a nickname of mine that my friends gave me in college, which I recently went back to being called. I love using nicknames. Sometimes they are given because of a physical or personality trait, an inside joke or a passion. I love to surf. I love nature. I love the ocean. So since I was seen wearing "Roxy" surf gear all the time, this became my nickname. Some of my other names are "Reba", Reebok" , and Rasta. I am still called those by different people in my life. :) Most people know me as either Rabeka or Roxi. I don't mind either..as long as you don't call me late for dinner!
Some of my interests include eating, cooking, camping, running, flying, surfing, rock climbing, baking, sewing, scrapbooking, photography, making art, looking at art, driving fast cars, helping women achieve their goals, playing with my kid, singing, traveling, road trips, gardening and so much more. I love to live life to the fullest. I love to try new food. I love to try new things and just seem to be interested in the wonderful world around me.
I started my Mary Kay business when I was in my Sophomore year in college. I have always wanted to be my own boss and make my own hours.
As a kid I was always coming up with ideas of things to make and sell. I've made aprons, cookies, brownies, homemade pies [from scratch], beaded jewelry, art, clothes, hats, purses and oh so much more. I didn't grow up in a family that had much and we had to make a lot of our own things. My mother is a talented seamstress as well as my grandmother was. I learned at an early age that if you wanted something, you had better go and work for it.
So when I found the Mary Kay opportunity, thanks to my older sister Jennifer, I was amazed at what I could do with it. I didn't have to wait to have someone else promote me, and if i wanted to surf that day and work later, I could. I was taking 15 units that semester, working 2 part-time jobs, volunteering in my church, running for my college cross country and also track teams - where I was the team captain. I had a lot on my plate but I wanted that freedom that Mary Kay offered me. Jennifer had invited me to be a face model for her at a success meeting. I had so much fun, fell in LOVE with the newly launched Time Wise line and listened intently when they were explaining the opportunity. I wanted to be a stay at home mom whenever that was the season in my life. I wanted financial freedom from the debt I was already in. I wanted the mansion on the hill with a track, basketball court and more.... I wanted my family to be close to me and my house to be the home where all our kids and their friends hung out. I wanted more choices in life.
That night I filled out my agreement and wrote a check that I knew wouldn't clear. But if you signed up that night, you received a hand-dipped gold leaf. It was a REAL LEAF! I sooo wanted that! [I'm a prize girl] I told my sister to hold onto the check for a few days so I could get the money together. She told me that she was sending it in on Friday and if it bounced it was my problem. I am so grateful to her for doing that! I don't remember how I came up with the money, I just remember it happening and my check clearing. I waited in anticipation for my kit to come.
Back when I started we didn't have the Internet as an option in our business, everything was done by phone or snail mail. When my kit came, I tore into it and got to work. I was away on a trip with my track team the weekend after my kit came, so I facialed 12 girls in my hotel room and sold some product.
Here I am, 9 years later, married for 7 and we have a son that is 17 months [and a handful]. I have been though many wonderful and trying experiences with my Mary Kay, but through even the death of my grandmother and more recently the unexpected death of my nephew, my Mary Kay sisters have been there to support, motivate and uplift. I have grown from a teen who just wanted to play to a leader and trainer. My passion is to help women become their potential, to have their dreams in life. When I needed to take a break and focus on my family, my business was there waiting when I returned. No boss would ever let me take a break for a few months, or half a year, and step back into my position without loosing pay or my coworkers feeling that I was being treated better than them.
I have been able to help with so many unexpected expenses throughout the years. A few years ago my husband was playing in an annual "Turkey Bowl" game that was supposed to be flag football, but a rather large and out of shape man tackled my husband and broke his collar bone. Never once did the man apologize or offer to help pay for the medical bills. My husband was out of work during the holidays. We had bills to pay and presents to purchase. Thanks to Mary Kay I was able to hold just a few more skin care classes, sell just a little more and we made it though the season comfortably. I felt a sense of accomplishment that I was able to help when my hubby needed a break.
We used to have a different cell phone company than we do now. You are probably asking what this has to do with Mary Kay. Well, all my family used to have different cell phone companies. This meant when we talked, I would use my minutes because they weren't "friends / family" with our company. Even though we all live in town, we have been known- on occasion- to talk for 4 ish hours at a time. One bill came that was about $400! We about died! Our bill was normally around $70. This was a big jump in price. It was because I talked a lot with my sisters. If I had had a "real job" as most people call it, I wouldn't have been able to ask to work more to get more money or to have an advance on my paycheck. I got to work and within a week of holding appointments, I was able to pay off the bill and had money to spare. Again it was great to know that whenever I needed, I could have more.
Today I am grateful to my husband who has always been my partner in crime and biggest cheerleader. We make a great team! He gently reminds me when I need a reality check and high-fives me when I reach my goals. I am also grateful to Dawn, my Sales Director, who [sometimes] not so gently tells me to get to work and forget myself. It is nice to know that we have a relationship where she can tell me that and I am open to it :) She keeps me on track and helps me reach my goals. Thank you Dawn.
The next step for me in my business is to earn my free car, a Chevy Malibu, and to become a Sales Director.
